Overview
Wide Wood Chisel 30 mm with Grooved Curved Edge and Forged Blade in Wooden Handle for Removing Large Areas with a Mallet

The carving chisel with a curved edge of 30 mm width is intended for rough work, where a large amount of material is removed from a block of wood. The wide grooved edge takes a large strip of wood with each cut, allowing for quick achievement of the basic shape. The blade is hand-forged, widening from a narrower neck and slightly curved at the end. It is supplied sharpened and with the handle already attached. The tool is useful for shaping sculptures, large bowls, troughs, reliefs, and other larger wooden products.

The cylindrical wooden handle is comfortable to hold and the metal conical transition strengthens the connection between the handle and the blade. With a wide chisel, hand strength is often not advantageous, which is why the tool is designed for striking with a mallet. The manufacturer intentionally fits the handle with a slight play so that it settles more firmly during mallet work. Any small gap at the handle upon unpacking is therefore part of the construction. The slight curvature of the blade aids in hollowing out, as the edge penetrates deeper into the recess without the handle hitting the edge of the workpiece.

Before starting work, secure the workpiece firmly, as significant force is applied to the wood with strikes from the mallet on the wide edge. Remove material gradually, in the direction of the grain and in reasonably thick layers. Strike the end of the handle straight, not at an angle, and preferably use a wooden or rubber mallet that does not stress the handle as much. Always keep your hands behind the edge. After work, clean the blade of sawdust and resin and wipe it dry. For longer storage, treat it with a thin layer of oil and store the edge so that it does not come into contact with other metal tools. A sharpened edge cuts cleaner and with less effort.

The wide chisel with a grooved edge of 30 mm is suitable for anyone working on larger wooden projects who needs to quickly remove a lot of material. The hand-forged curved blade and cylindrical handle made of wood designed for striking with a mallet make it a practical tool for rough carving work. It is supplied sharpened and ready for use. It will be used by carvers, sculptors, and DIY enthusiasts who want to make working with large pieces of wood easier. Details can then be refined with narrower chisels and knives.
