Kitchen sinks

The sink is where dishes are washed, vegetables rinsed and pans filled, so its size, depth and features decide how comfortable it is to work at the kitchen counter. Kitchen sinks include stainless steel inset sinks with a waterfall spout and pull-out tap, a double-bowl sink, compact models for small kitchens, hidden sinks with a lid that sit in the worktop and freestanding sinks with a base unit or stand.

Kitchen sinks

Multifunctional inset models in black stainless steel combine washing, rinsing and chopping on one surface. They have a waterfall spout and a pull-out spray head with three spray modes, and most also come with a glass rinser, soap dispenser, drainer basket and chopping board. Sizes range from 45 × 40 cm to 100 × 50 cm with a bowl depth of 20 to 23 cm, so a larger pan fits too. The largest model also has a spray gun and a knife holder.

The double-bowl sink measuring 78 × 43 × 21 cm in polished stainless steel lets you wash up in one bowl and rinse in the other. The sliding vegetable container moves over the bowl, and the tap holes are ready-made. The compact 40 × 45 × 20 cm sink with a nano coating, soap dispenser and drainer fits into a smaller kitchen.

Hidden models measuring 45 × 30 cm are set into the worktop. Once the tap is folded down and the lid is closed, the bowl is covered and the worktop stays free for chopping or putting things down. They suit kitchens with little counter space.

Freestanding models do not need kitchen units. The 75 × 40 × 75 cm sink stands on a base with a draining area and a lower shelf and has a swivel tap. The 83 × 42 × 37 cm sink in 201 stainless steel stands on a frame with adjustable feet, has a tap and drainer and works in a kitchen, a workshop or outdoors.

When choosing a sink, the space on the counter and the type of installation are what matter most. Before buying an inset sink, it is worth measuring the base unit and checking where the water supply and waste pipe are. A deeper bowl takes large pots, while the glass rinser and drainer basket speed up the work. Compact or hidden sinks suit small kitchens, and freestanding models suit places without kitchen units.
