On site, hard hats with an ABS shell adjust with a dial from 53 to 63 cm, so they fit most adults. Vents carry heat away and reflective details improve visibility at dusk. The lightest model weighs 375 g, while another combines ABS with EPS foam and has a removable liner and chin strap.
For chainsaw and brushcutter work there are 3-in-1 forestry helmets with a flip-up metal mesh visor and ear defenders that dampen engine noise. The visor and ear defenders are removable, and the six-point harness spreads pressure across the whole head. The wide-brimmed helmet shades the face and neck. The bump cap with a foam sweatband protects your head when you knock it against obstacles, but not from falling objects, and does not replace a hard hat.
Put the helmet on straight and tighten the dial so it does not slip when you lean forward. Replace it after a hard knock, even if no crack is visible, and if your employer requires certification, check the EN 397 standard for the specific model.
