Replacement projector lamps

When your projector’s picture fades or the device warns that the lamp is reaching the end of its life, you don’t need a new projector straight away. A replacement lamp restores the brightness, and you can usually fit it yourself. You’ll find lamps with a housing that go in as one piece, plus bare lamps for the original frame.

Replacement projector lamps

The easiest option is a lamp with housing, a complete module ready to slot into the projector. The lamp with its glass reflector sits in a plastic housing with a metal frame, so you just loosen the screws, pull out the old module and put in the new one.

The alternative is a bare lamp without a module. You get just the lamp with a glass reflector, ceramic head and cable with connector, which you fit into the original frame taken out of the projector. Unplug the projector and let it cool down properly first, and don’t touch the glass with your fingers. Take the old lamp to an e-waste collection point, as projector lamps usually contain mercury.

Before you order, compare the lamp code and wattage with the original part. The lamps are designed for selected projector models from one manufacturer. The code is on the old lamp’s label or in the manual, and all are rated at 230 W according to specifications. After replacing it, remember to reset the lamp hour counter in the projector menu.
