Garden rocking chairs and swing benches
Swinging motion and comfort outdoors, whether in a single chair or a multi-seat bench with a canopy. Garden rocking chairs and swing benches include classic and relaxing rocking chairs, hanging chairs, and two- and three-seat swing benches, often with padding and a sun canopy. They differ in construction, load capacity and frame material, so it is easy to choose a piece for relaxing for one person or for the whole family.
Garden rocking chairs and swing benches
A gentle swing helps you switch off and rest outdoors better than ordinary sitting. Garden rocking chairs and swing benches combine sitting comfort with a swinging motion and suit the terrace, the porch and spots under trees — from single chairs to spacious benches for several people. They are chosen by the number of seats, the available space, the load capacity and the material that has to withstand outdoor conditions.
For one person, rocking chairs are the choice. Classic ones have curved runners and rock with the movement of the body, relaxing and sprung models sway smoothly on a metal base, and hanging chairs (often egg- or basket-shaped) hang from a stand or hook. Soft cushions add comfort, and some models also have a footrest or a canopy.
For more people, swing benches are intended. Two- to three-seat models with a padded seat swing on a frame and are often complemented by a sun and rain canopy, an adjustable backrest or the option to fold down almost into a lounger. A firm suspension and stable legs are important on larger benches for safe swinging.
The construction and frame material are decisive. A steel frame is firm and carries a higher load, an aluminium one is lighter and does not rust, and wood and rattan look natural. The load capacity is best chosen with a margin according to the number of seats; fabrics and cushions with a water-repellent and UV-resistant finish withstand staying outdoors better, and for the winter it is practical to store them away or protect them with a cover.
