Back boxes and blanking plates

Electrical boxes protect wire connections and hold switches or sockets, while blanking plates neatly cover unused spots on the wall. Choose from weatherproof surface-mounted boxes for outdoor sockets, electrical enclosures with cable entries and metal blanking plates without openings for flush boxes.

Back boxes and blanking plates

Weatherproof boxes rated IP54 or higher are surface-mounted outdoors, in the garage or in the workshop and protect connections from rain and dust. Cables enter through cable glands or knockouts that seal around the insulation. Models with a transparent hinged lid can house a socket and let you check it without opening.

Blanking plates cover the box of a removed socket or switch, or a box prepared for future expansion. The metal version in brushed stainless steel matches switches and sockets from the same design range, giving the wall a uniform look. Before buying, check that the plate size matches the type of back box in your wall.

Every wire connection should sit in an accessible junction box, not loose in the wall, so it can be inspected later. Choose a box deep enough for the connectors and some spare wire. Leave connecting the wires to a qualified electrician.
