Carpet cleaners
Portable spot cleaners work on the spray-and-extract principle: the cleaning solution is sprayed into the fibres, the brush works it in and the suction draws it out with the dirt into the dirty water tank. Separate clean and dirty water tanks ensure that extracted dirt does not end up back in the fabric.
Performance is given as suction pressure in kilopascals, and models around 12 to 15 kPa can handle everyday stains and pet hair. Combination machines with steam also loosen dried-on dirt with heat. A compact size and a hose with attachments make it easier to clean stairs, car seats or the corners of a sofa.
After use, empty, rinse and dry the tanks so that no odours develop. Use only low-foam solutions designed for these cleaners, as foam from ordinary shampoos can get into the suction system. Test the solution first on a hidden area to check that the fabric is colourfast.
