Food nitrate testers

Food nitrate testers measure the nitrate content of fruit, vegetables, meat and fish at home, at the market or in the garden. You’ll find pocket-sized digital testers with a dual probe and clear display, models with a radiation detector and devices that also measure the TDS value (dissolved solids) of water and send results to your phone via Bluetooth.

Checking fruit and vegetables takes seconds with digital nitrate testers. Choose the food in the menu, push the dual metal probe into the flesh or meat and start the test. The device shows the result in mg/kg with a guide value for that food and rates it on three levels, from low to excessive. According to the manufacturer, most models measure 0–9999 mg/kg with a deviation of up to 10% and recognise over 60 foods.

Many models also work as nitrate testers with a radiation detector, showing the radiation level in µSv/h on the display at all times. The best-equipped devices also measure the TDS value of water and send results via Bluetooth to an Android and iOS app.

For shopping and travel, pocket-sized nitrate detectors smaller than a mobile phone are handy. The clear display with icons makes them easy to use without technical knowledge. On most models the built-in battery charges via USB and lasts up to 20 hours according to the manufacturer. A removable cap protects the probe, and some models also have a cooking timer.
