Safety and comfort are among the main criteria when choosing motorcycle gear. Quality motorcycle clothing serves as the first line of defence in a fall and as a barrier against cold, rain, insects and UV radiation. Riding style, climatic conditions and route length all play a role in the choice.
Among the basic pieces are motorcycle jackets in textile and leather versions. Textile jackets with a membrane are versatile, suitable for touring and city use, and generally offer better rain protection. Leather models stand out for their abrasion resistance and are mainly used for sport and track riding. Trousers are produced in the same material variants and with similar equipment — pockets for knee and hip protectors, ventilation and a waterproof layer.
Motorcycle gloves and boots complement every set. Gloves differ by season: summer ones are lightweight and perforated, while winter gloves feature a waterproof membrane and insulation. Special motocross models protect against impacts and branches. Motorcycle boots ensure ankle protection, have a reinforced toe and a non-slip sole.
When choosing, it is advisable to pay attention to the CE certification level of the protectors, the material composition and the seam quality. Well-fitting gear must allow free movement when seated and when leaning, yet should not be too loose — protectors should not shift during a fall. Women's and men's sizes differ in cut and the position of protectors matches anatomy.
Textile maintenance consists of hand washing at low temperatures and regular membrane impregnation. Leather requires a nourishing balm and protection from moisture. Proper care extends the lifespan and the protective properties.
