Monitor stands and mounts
A well-positioned screen relieves the neck and eyes and frees up space on the desk. Monitor stands and mounts let you set the height, tilt and rotation of the display exactly as needed. They include desktop stands with a base, height-adjustable arms with a gas spring, wall mounts and models for two monitors side by side. They differ in how they attach (clamp, grommet, VESA) and in load capacity. You can choose based on the weight and diagonal of the screen and on how many displays you want to mount.
Monitor stands and mounts
Placing the screen at the right height and distance eases the neck and eyes and at the same time clears the work surface. Monitor stands and mounts let you slide the display up and down, tilt and rotate it, or switch it to portrait orientation. They are valued by people who spend all day at the computer, by gamers and by anyone who wants a tidy desk.
The range covers several types. A desktop stand with a base simply replaces the monitor's original foot. A gas-spring arm attaches to the desk, and you move the screen with a single motion of your hand. Wall mounts place the display on the wall and free up the desk surface entirely, while models for two or more monitors hold the screens side by side or one above the other.
The way it attaches and its compatibility are crucial. At the desk, the mount is fixed either with a clamp over the edge of the tabletop or with a grommet through a pre-drilled hole. On the back of the monitor the VESA standard applies, most often at spacings of 75×75 or 100×100 mm. You should also keep an eye on the load capacity and the range of diagonals the model can handle.
When choosing, start from the weight and size of the screen and the number of displays you want to mount. Check whether the monitor has VESA holes or whether you'll need an adapter, and how thick the tabletop is and what it's made of. For comfortable work, a wider range of height and tilt adjustment helps; a tidy look is aided by cable management, which often comes with the arms. A well-chosen mount makes daily time at the computer more pleasant and extends the life of an organised workspace.
