Soft accessories that make sitting more pleasant and freshen up the look of outdoor furniture. Cushions and seat pads for garden furniture include seat pads for chairs and benches, back and backrest cushions, sets for whole suites and decorative cushions, in various sizes and colours. They differ in filling and thickness as well as in cover and its durability, so it is easy to fine-tune comfort and the style of the seating area.

Cushions and seat pads for garden furniture

The hard seat of a garden chair or bench is more comfortable with a soft pad that also coordinates the colours of the whole seating group. Cushions and seat pads for garden furniture complement suites, individual chairs, benches, loungers and swing seats and are easy to replace when a change is wanted or when they wear out. They are chosen by the size of the furniture, the thickness of the filling and the durability of the cover.

Depending on use, the types of cushions and seat pads differ. Separate seat pads soften the seat of chairs and benches, back and backrest cushions add support for the back, continuous sets fit whole dining or lounge suites, and decorative cushions round off the look. Fastening with ties or loops keeps the pad in place and stops it slipping.

The filling and thickness determine comfort. Thinner seat pads (usually 2–5 cm) are light and easy to store, thicker cushions (5–10 cm and more) offer a softer and more stable seat. A filling of hollow polyester fibre is springy and quickly regains its shape, while a foam core holds its shape longer and gives better support.

The cover and its care are practical. Breathable polyester fabric (often Oxford) with a water-repellent and UV-resistant finish withstands staying outdoors, and a removable cover with a zip washes easily. On cushions that stay outside, materials resistant to moisture and mould are useful; for the night and the winter it is practical to store them away or protect them with a cover so that they last longer.
