Bike pumps

You’ll find hand pumps with and without a gauge, rechargeable electric pumps and a high-pressure shock pump for forks and shocks. The heads fit car-type valves and, on many models, Presta valves too. Maximum pressure, size and whether you carry the pump or use it at home matter most when choosing.

Bike pumps

For rides there are compact hand pumps from 20 to 43.5 cm long, some made of aluminium alloy. Models with a gauge show the pressure as you pump, and high-pressure versions reach up to 160 PSI according to the manufacturer. The heads fit car-type valves and, on many models, Presta valves too.

Inflating is easier with rechargeable electric pumps that reach 120 to 150 PSI according to the manufacturer. Most have a digital display, and on some models you can preset the pressure so the pump stops by itself once it gets there. Some also come with a ball needle, and one doubles as a power bank.

For suspension there is a high-pressure shock pump for forks and shocks with a gauge and up to 300 PSI. Air forks and shocks on mountain bikes need precise pressure based on the rider’s weight, so standard pumps are not suitable. Before buying, check which valve your inner tube has and what pressure the tyre manufacturer recommends.
