Overview
V Chisel 5 mm with a Cutting Angle of Approximately 60° Forged Blade and Light Wood Handle for Wide Grooves and Outlines in Wood

The V-profile chisel is one of the tools used to carve grooves with a sharp bottom and two slanted walls into wood. The blade width of 5 mm leaves a clear line that is easily visible even on larger pieces. The cutting edges form an angle of approximately 60°, which is the typical shape for V chisels used in carving. This tool is ideal for carving frames, edges of surfaces, larger letters, and ornaments. It is useful in the workshop of a carver, carpenter, or DIY enthusiast who embellishes furniture, boards, or decorations.

The chisel blade is forged and transitions into a handle made of light wood with a slender shaft. The handle has a round cross-section, allowing for good rotation in the palm and fingers, enabling smooth following of the curves of the motif. The end of the wooden part near the blade is finished with a golden metal ferrule. The manufacturer indicates a measuring tolerance of ±1 mm for forged blades, meaning the actual blade width may slightly deviate from the stated value.

The 5 mm wide blade is suitable where a pronounced line is desired and the decorative motif should be easily readable at first glance. It is ideal for carving the edges of frames, stylised leaves, waves, or geometric patterns on boards, boxes, and panelling. When creating reliefs, the V chisel first carves the boundary of the motif, which helps prevent wood chipping beyond the outline, and the area is then hollowed out with flat or gouge chisels. On the finished piece, the chisel can help deepen the contours and emphasise the shadows between the individual surfaces.

During cutting, hold the chisel at a slight angle and move it with even pressure; with your other hand, you can support the blade at the cutting edge and guide it. The steeper you tilt the tool, the deeper the groove will be. Cutting along the grain is easier, and the surface of the groove remains smooth; against the grain, it is better to remove only thin shavings. With a wider blade, it is advisable to create a deep line gradually over several strokes. After use, clean the tool of shavings, store it in a dry place, and regularly hone the blade.

The V chisel with a 5 mm blade is a suitable choice for carvers who wish to carve wide and clearly visible lines into wood. It is useful for outlines, frames, and embellishing larger surfaces. The forged blade along with the round handle made of light wood creates a simple tool that is comfortable to hold and control. The chisel can be used on its own or to complement your own set of carving tools.
