Overview
Heat Shrink Tubing 20 mm 2 m with Hot Melt Adhesive Shrink Ratio 4:1 Double-Walled Polyolefin Black Insulation for Power and Welding Cables

The heat shrink tubing with an internal adhesive layer, with a diameter of 20 mm, is designed for insulating joints of thick cables, large cable loops, and terminals. Thanks to the shrink ratio of 4:1, it shrinks from 20 mm down to 5 mm when heated, tightly conforming even to uneven and gradually tapering joints. The hot melt adhesive inside melts upon heating, filling the space between the conductor and the tubing, sealing the joint. The result is an insulated joint protected against moisture and dirt. The packaging contains 2 m of tubing, which you can cut into the required lengths.

The tubing consists of two layers. The outer polyolefin layer is abrasion-resistant and protects the joint during bending and vibrations, while the internal adhesive hardens upon cooling, reinforcing the joint against pull-out. After shrinking, the wall thickness is approximately 2.0 mm and the adhesive layer is about 0.6 mm. The material is self-extinguishing. This diameter is suitable for thick power cables, battery cables, welding cables, large cable loops, and for bundling multiple conductors together. Two metres is sufficient for repairing heavy-duty wiring in a car or for several smaller modifications in a workshop.

As the adhesive prevents water from entering along the conductor into the joint, the tubing is well-suited for outdoor use and in humid environments. It is ideal for wiring in the chassis, for powering pumps and winches, for solar installations, for battery storage, or for electrical installations on boats and in caravans. The tubing is also useful for repairing damaged cable insulation, simply sliding it over the damaged area and heating it.

  • Adhesive Layer Thickness – 0.6 mm ± 0.15 mm
  • Length – 2 m
  • Material – PE (polyolefin)
  • Colour – black
  • Properties – self-extinguishing and waterproof seals the joint
  • Contents – heat shrink tubing with adhesive, diameter 20 mm, length 2 m

Slide the tubing onto the cable beforehand, and after connecting the conductors, move it over the centre of the joint. Heat it evenly around with a heat gun until it completely shrinks and the adhesive oozes out at the edges. The adhesive melts at temperatures from 100 °C. Start heating from the centre and work towards the edges to allow air to escape from the joint. Move the joint only after it has cooled down, when the adhesive has hardened.

Two metres of black double-walled tubing with a diameter of 20 mm will serve well for insulating thick conductors and cable loops. The internal adhesive layer will seal the joint while reinforcing it against tension. The tubing can be easily cut to any length with scissors and shrunk with a heat gun. It will find use in a garage, during caravan construction, on a boat, and in a home workshop. Keep any unused pieces for your next repair.
