Overview
Heat Shrink Tubing 12 mm 2 m with Hot-Melt Adhesive 4:1 Shrink Ratio Dual-Wall PE Black Protection for Power Cable and Car Battery Joints

This dual-wall adhesive-lined heat shrink tubing with a 12 mm diameter is used to insulate and seal joints on thick wires. Before shrinking it has an inner diameter of 12 mm and, with a shrink ratio of 4:1, it tightens down to 3 mm when heated. The wide shrink range lets it grip joints whose thickness varies along their length, such as a crimped ring terminal on the end of a wire. Inside there is a layer of hot-melt adhesive that melts with the heat and fills the gaps around the joint. The pack contains 2 m of tubing, which you cut into pieces as needed.

The polyolefin outer layer protects the joint against abrasion, dust and mechanical stress. Once cool, the adhesive sets, bonds the tubing firmly to the cable insulation and stops water from creeping along the wire. After shrinking the wall is about 1.4 mm thick, of which roughly 0.5 mm is adhesive. The material is self-extinguishing. The 12 mm diameter suits car battery cables, starter and power cables, large ring terminals and bundling several wires into one loom. Two metres are enough for several repairs or for reworking the wiring of one vehicle or motorcycle.

Adhesive-lined tubing protects joints better than ordinary tubing without adhesive, so it is also suitable where cables are exposed to moisture, dust and vibration. Use it in the engine bay, on a winch power feed, on solar panel cables, on a boat or in the electrical installation of a caravan or motorhome.

  • Type – dual-wall heat shrink tubing with an inner hot-melt adhesive layer

  • Wall thickness after shrinking – 1.4 mm ± 0.15 mm
  • Adhesive layer thickness – 0.5 mm ± 0.15 mm
  • Length – 2 m
  • Material – PE (polyolefin)
  • Colour – black
  • Properties – self-extinguishing, seals the joint watertight
  • Package contents – adhesive-lined heat shrink tubing, 12 mm diameter, 2 m long

Slide a piece of tubing onto the cable before crimping or soldering and, once the joint is finished, move it so that it covers the whole joint. Heat it evenly from all sides with a heat gun until it fits tightly and a little adhesive appears at the edges. The adhesive melts from 100 °C. Work from the centre towards the edges so that no air is trapped under the tubing, and only bend the cable once it has cooled completely.

This black adhesive-lined heat shrink tubing, 12 mm in diameter and two metres long, is a practical helper when working with thick cables. Thanks to its layer of hot-melt adhesive it creates a watertight, strong joint that copes well with cable movement. The tubing cuts easily with a knife or scissors and shrinks with an ordinary heat gun. It comes in handy in the garage, in the car, on the boat and for small repairs at home. Keep the rest for next time.
