Overview
Grooved Carving Chisel 20 mm with Wide Curved Blade and Hand-Forged Blade in Wooden Handle for Roughing and Hollowing Wood

The carving chisel with a grooved blade width of 20 mm is among the tools primarily used in the initial stages of carving. The curved profile of the blade removes rounded strips from the wood and helps to quickly achieve the basic shape of the workpiece. The blade is hand-forged, gradually widening from a narrower neck and slightly curved at the end. The chisel is delivered sharpened and with the handle attached, making it ready for use straight out of the box. It can be used for carving bowls, spoons, sculptures, reliefs, and other wooden items.

The handle is wooden and has a simple cylindrical shape, which fits comfortably in the hand even during extended use. At the point where the blade connects to the handle, there is a metal conical transition that reinforces the tool at this stressed point. The chisel is designed for cutting with hand pressure as well as for use with a wooden mallet. The manufacturer deliberately attaches the handle with a slight play, as it will settle more firmly with tapping during use. Therefore, a small gap at the handle upon unpacking is not a defect. Thanks to the curvature of the blade, the cutting edge can better reach recesses and hollowed areas where a straight chisel would hit the handle against the surrounding wood.

Always securely clamp the workpiece in a vice or to a workbench before starting work. Remove wood gradually and do not attempt to take too thick a layer in one cut; this way, the edge will remain sharp longer and the surface will tear less. If possible, work in the direction of the grain. After finishing work, clean the blade of sawdust and resin and wipe it dry. Before storing for an extended period, coat it with a thin layer of oil to prevent moisture damage. Protect the edge from impacts with other metal tools and regularly hone it.

The grooved chisel with a blade width of 20 mm is a reliable assistant for anyone who needs to quickly shape the basic form of a product from a block of wood. The forged curved blade, curved edge, and cylindrical wooden handle allow for hand use as well as with a mallet. The tool is supplied sharpened and with the handle attached. It will be appreciated by carvers who make bowls, spoons, or larger sculptures, as well as DIY enthusiasts working with wood. After roughing, you can switch to narrower tools for finer shaping.
