The set includes 5 seeds of the Duranta erecta species, an attractive flowering shrub native to Central and South America. The main ornamental value of this plant lies in its small purple flowers with striking white edges, which grow in dense racemes along slender branches. Young shrubs form a compact habit with small, vibrant green leaves and flower profusely and repeatedly throughout the season. This species is suitable for pots on terraces, balconies, or in ornamental gardens, where it can find a warm, sheltered spot. For successful germination, we recommend soaking the seeds in lukewarm water for 12 hours before sowing to swell and kickstart development. Sow in a well-draining substrate made of potting soil mixed with sand to a depth of about half to one centimetre. Germination occurs best at a temperature range of 22 to 28 °C and stable moisture, which can be maintained in a mini greenhouse or under plastic. Germination typically takes between two to six weeks. Young seedlings thrive in a bright, sunny location with regular watering and occasional feeding during the growing season. In cooler climates, the plant should be protected from frost indoors or in a heated greenhouse, where it has sufficient warmth and light throughout this dormant period.
