Overview
Adhesive Lined Heat Shrink Tubing 8 mm 3 m 4:1 Shrink Ratio Dual Wall Polyolefin Black Tight Insulation for Cable Lugs and Thicker Wires

Dual-wall adhesive lined heat shrink tubing with an 8 mm diameter is used to insulate and seal joints of thicker cables, cable lugs and connectors. Before shrinking its inner diameter is 8 mm and thanks to the 4:1 shrink ratio it shrinks down to 2 mm when heated. Inside there is a layer of hot-melt adhesive that melts during heating, fills the space around the conductor and closes the joint once it cools. The joint is then electrically insulated and protected against moisture, corrosion and dust. The package contains 3 m of tubing, which you can cut into pieces exactly as needed.

The outer jacket of the tubing is made of polyolefin, which resists abrasion and cable bending well. After hardening, the inner adhesive layer holds the tubing firmly in place and reinforces the joint against pulling. After shrinking the wall is approximately 1.2 mm thick, of which about 0.5 mm is adhesive. The material is self-extinguishing. The 8 mm diameter suits thicker power wires, car battery cables, crimp connectors and bundles of several thinner cables. Three metres is enough for a larger number of joints, so the tubing is ideal for the workshop, the car and the kit of an electrician who works with wiring regularly.

The adhesive inside prevents water from getting along the conductor into the joint. That is why the tubing is useful for cables in the engine compartment, trailer lighting, wiring on a boat, garden lighting and pump power leads.

  • Type – dual-wall heat shrink tubing with an inner hot-melt adhesive layer
  • Shrink ratio – 4:1
  • Inner diameter before shrinking – 8 mm
  • Inner diameter after shrinking – 2 mm maximum
  • Wall thickness after shrinking – 1.2 mm ± 0.15 mm
  • Adhesive layer thickness – 0.5 mm ± 0.15 mm
  • Length – 3 m
  • Material – PE (polyolefin)
  • Colour – black
  • Properties – self-extinguishing, seals the joint watertight
  • Package contents – adhesive-lined heat shrink tubing, 8 mm diameter, 3 m long

Slide a piece of tubing onto the wire before you solder or crimp the joint. Once the joint is finished, move it to the middle and heat it evenly from all sides with a heat gun. It is done when the tubing tightly wraps the joint and adhesive appears at its edges. The adhesive melts from 100 °C. Heat from the middle towards the ends so that no air remains in the joint, and bend the cable only after it has cooled down.

Adhesive lined heat shrink tubing with an 8 mm diameter and a length of 3 m is a practical supply for insulating thicker cables. The dual-wall design with a layer of hot-melt adhesive seals the joint and protects it from water and corrosion. The black colour is unobtrusive on wiring. Just cut the tubing, slide it on and heat it. It is useful in the car, on a motorcycle, on a boat and in the home workshop.
