Overview
Adhesive Lined Heat Shrink Tubing 12 mm 1 m 4:1 Shrink Ratio Dual Wall Polyolefin Black Sealing Joints of Heavy Cables and Wire Bundles

Dual-wall adhesive lined heat shrink tubing with a 12 mm diameter is designed for insulating and sealing joints of heavy cables, cable lugs and wire bundles. The inner diameter before shrinking is 12 mm and thanks to the 4:1 shrink ratio it shrinks down to 3 mm when heated. This lets it tightly wrap even joints with very different thicknesses, such as the transition from a cable lug to the wire. The inner layer of hot-melt adhesive melts with heat and seals the joint from the inside against water and moisture. The package contains 1 m of tubing, which you can cut into the pieces you need.

The tubing has two layers. The polyolefin outer jacket resists abrasion and protects the joint when the cable moves, while the inner adhesive hardens after cooling and reinforces the joint against pulling. After shrinking the wall is approximately 1.4 mm thick, of which the adhesive layer makes up about 0.5 mm. The material is self-extinguishing. The 12 mm diameter suits heavy power cables, car battery cables and jump leads, large cable lugs, connectors and joining several wires into one bundle. One metre is enough for a one-off repair or a smaller modification of power wiring.

Compared with tubing without adhesive, this version protects the joint much better against water ingress. It is therefore used mainly on cables that are outdoors or in demanding environments, for example winch power leads, car battery wiring, solar panel leads or electrical installations on boats and in caravans.

  • Type – dual-wall heat shrink tubing with an inner hot-melt adhesive layer
  • Shrink ratio – 4:1
  • Inner diameter before shrinking – 12 mm
  • Inner diameter after shrinking – 3 mm maximum
  • Wall thickness after shrinking – 1.4 mm ± 0.15 mm
  • Adhesive layer thickness – 0.5 mm ± 0.15 mm
  • Length – 1 m
  • Material – PE (polyolefin)
  • Colour – black
  • Properties – self-extinguishing, seals the joint watertight
  • Package contents – adhesive-lined heat shrink tubing, 12 mm diameter, 1 m long

Before joining, slide a piece of tubing onto the cable and, once the joint is finished, move it over its middle. Heat it evenly all around with a heat gun until it shrinks tightly and adhesive appears at the edges. The adhesive melts at temperatures from 100 °C. Work from the middle of the joint towards the ends so that air escapes, and move the cable only after it has cooled.

Black dual-wall adhesive tubing with a 12 mm diameter protects joints of heavy cables, large cable lugs and wire bundles. The layer of hot-melt adhesive seals the joint against water and reinforces it against pulling. The one-metre pack is handy for a quick repair in the car, on a boat or in the home workshop. Cut off the piece you need, slide it onto the cable and heat it. Keep the rest of the tubing for the next repair.
