Overview
2 mm Triangular Carving Chisel with V-Shaped Blade Profile of Approximately 60° Forged Blade and Wooden Handle for Fine Lines and Wood Carving

The triangular carving chisel is one of the essential tools for drawing lines in wood. Its blade has a V-shaped profile with a width of 2 mm, creating a narrow groove with a sharp bottom and sloping walls. Both edges form an angle of approximately 60°, allowing the mark to be sufficiently deep while remaining slender. The chisel is useful for carving outlines, lettering, shading, and fine decorative patterns. The 2 mm size is suitable where the narrowest chisel is too fine and a wider one would unnecessarily broaden the line.

The blade of the chisel is forged and continues with a thin tang into the handle. The handle made of light wood has a round cross-section, allowing for easy rotation and following curved lines during cutting. The transition between the wood and metal is covered by a gold-coloured ferrule. For forged blades, the manufacturer indicates a possible size deviation of ±1 mm, which is good to consider when precisely planning the groove width.

The two-millimetre V-chisel is well-suited for carving inscriptions, monograms, and simple geometric patterns on boards, boxes, or decorations. It can also be used to pre-draw the outline of a motif along which wider chisels can then be worked. When embellishing reliefs, it helps to highlight transitions between surfaces or add texture to the surface with fine shading. Due to its smaller width, the tool remains manageable even in tight curves and sharp arcs.

The chisel is held at a slight angle to the surface and moved with a smooth pressure, with the depth of cut determined by the tool's inclination. Cutting along the grain usually results in a smoother groove, while against the grain requires more caution and less material removal. It is preferable to create a deeper line with several consecutive strokes rather than one strong movement. After use, clean the tool of shavings and store it in a dry place. The blade gradually dulls with use, so it is advisable to regularly hone it.

The 2 mm V-chisel is a versatile aid for carvers who need clean and fine lines. It is suitable for outlines, letters, and decorative details and complements flat and gouge chisels well. Forged blade with a V profile and handle made of light wood create a simple and clear tool. The chisel can be used independently or to expand the set with another width of V profile.
