This set contains 10 seeds of the species Delonix regia, known here as Royal Poinciana. It is one of the most well-known tropical trees in the world, famous for its vivid orange flowers, which cover almost the entire crown of the tree during the flowering period, creating an unmistakable fiery mane. The plant originates from Madagascar and currently adorns the streets and parks of warm regions around the world — from southern Europe and northern Africa to the Caribbean and Southeast Asia. The delicate, doubly pinnate leaves resembling ferns give the tree a light appearance even outside the flowering period. For enthusiasts of exotic plants, growing from seed is one of the few realistic ways to enjoy this tree outside its natural tropical home.
Before sowing, we recommend scarifying the seeds — lightly filing or sanding them — and then letting them swell in lukewarm water for 24 hours. Without this preparation, they germinate very slowly because their coating is hard and almost impermeable. Sow them in well-draining substrate, ideally a mixture of potting soil with sand or perlite, to a depth of approximately 1 cm. For germination, they require a constant temperature of around 25–30 °C and sufficient moisture, which can be maintained by covering the container with film or placing it in a mini greenhouse. The first roots usually appear within two to four weeks. Then, place young plants in a bright location, gradually acclimatising them to direct sunlight, and in winter, provide cooler overwintering at temperatures around 15 °C, always without frost.
