Overview
Diospyros melanoxylon Seeds 10 pcs Asian Tree with Orange Fruits and Dark Wood for Indoor and Greenhouse Cultivation

This set contains 10 seeds of the Diospyros melanoxylon species, a mature tropical tree native to India and surrounding countries of South Asia. This timber is globally valued primarily for its very hard, darkly coloured heartwood, which has historically been used in carving and the production of musical instruments. The tree bears small, round fruits in orange and brown tones, giving the timber a very picturesque appearance during the harvest season. The leaves are medium-sized, leathery, and deep green, forming a dense crown that provides a shady effect. Growing from home planting is a way to acquire a truly unusual piece for your collection of exotic tropical plants.

Before sowing, we recommend soaking the seeds in lukewarm water for 24 to 48 hours, or carefully scarring them with a file, which will increase the likelihood of successful germination. Sow in a deeper container with a permeable peat-sand substrate, to a depth of about one centimetre. Seeds germinate most readily at temperatures between 25 and 30 °C and stable higher humidity, which can easily be maintained in a mini greenhouse or under film. The germination period for this species can be quite long — from several weeks to several months, so patience is absolutely key here. Young seedlings quickly develop a strong taproot, so it is advisable to transplant them into taller containers as soon as possible, where the root system can develop well without deformation.

A home-grown specimen can thus become the focal point of a home collection and a topic of conversation with other botany enthusiasts.
