Dichrostachys cinerea Seeds 5 pcs Tropical Shrub with Bicoloured Pink and Yellow Flowers for Indoor and Greenhouse Cultivation
You already have the maximum available quantity in your cart.
This small package contains 5 seeds of the species Dichrostachys cinerea, an exceptionally interesting tropical shrub originating from Africa, Madagascar, and parts of South Asia. The main ornamental value of this plant lies in its unconventional bicoloured inflorescences — the upper part consists of delicate pink filaments resembling fluff, while the lower part is a vibrant yellow with small flowers arranged in a cylindrical shape. The overall appearance of the flower resembles a hanging lantern, and in the plant kingdom, it is hard to find anything that surpasses it. The set of five seeds is primarily intended for enthusiasts and collectors who are looking for a truly unusual species to add to their collection. Growing from seed offers a unique experience of observing all growth phases of this unusual woody plant.
The seeds of this species have a relatively hard seed coat, and therefore we recommend mechanically scarifying them with a file and soaking them in hot water, allowing them to cool overnight. This treatment significantly increases the percentage of germinated seeds and shortens the time until the first roots appear. Sow in a well-draining substrate based on peat with sand to a depth of about one centimetre, maintain moderate moisture and higher temperature. Germination occurs best at temperatures between 25 and 30 °C, and the time from sowing to the first roots ranges from two to six weeks, occasionally longer. Young seedlings thrive in a sunny location with warm air and without drafts that could cause the young shoots to dry out. For overwintering in temperate climates, we recommend moving indoors or to a greenhouse with temperatures not dropping below 10 °C; otherwise, the plant will not thrive.

Growing this tropical rarity from the African continent is suitable for anyone who loves truly unusual plants and wants to have something at home that their surroundings are unlikely to see anywhere else. The lantern-like flowers in the combination of pink and yellow are so striking that they immediately attract the attention of every visitor. The set of five seeds is suitable for a one-time growing attempt or as an addition to a collection of exotic species where you are looking for something specific. In a temperate European climate, it is essential to remember to provide frost-free protection for the plant during the winter period and to give it plenty of heat and light throughout the season. Growing from seed is invaluable as it allows you to nurture the plant from the very beginning and observe its transformation from a seedling to a mature flowering shrub.
