This package contains 200 seeds of the Dendrocalamus strictus species, one of the most cultivated bamboos in Asia. This species reaches considerable dimensions and, under ideal conditions, forms dense clumps with solid, massive stems, characterised by their thickness and hardness. The bulk packaging is designed to meet the needs of more demanding growers, landscaping projects, and long-term experiments that require a sufficient supply of seeds. It is also suitable as a basis for plantation trials, planting around agricultural buildings, or for interesting collections of unconventional grass species. With appropriate care, this material can gradually develop into a truly extensive growth.
The preparation of the seeds should not be underestimated — by carefully soaking in soft water for 24 hours, the chances of quick and even germination are significantly increased. After swelling, gently transfer the seeds to a sowing substrate composed of a permeable peat mixture enriched with perlite or coarse sand. The recommended sowing depth is around one centimetre, and keep the top layer slightly moist, but without standing water. Germination occurs most readily at temperatures between 25 and 30 °C and higher air humidity, which can be provided by a mini greenhouse or covering the sowing with film. The first shoots may appear within a few weeks, but full germination of a larger batch usually takes several months. Later, transplant the seedlings into deeper containers, as the root system grows quite intensively downwards.
