Overview
Delonix Decaryi Seeds 5 pcs Small Deciduous Rare Tree from Madagascar with White Flowers for Botanical Collections and Home Winter Gardens

A set of five seeds of the rare African tree Delonix decaryi provides the grower with a higher chance of successful germination compared to smaller packs. This species is among the rarest representatives of the Delonix genus and appears only occasionally in European horticulture. For successful cultivation of several seedlings, five seeds are the ideal compromise between collector's value and practical growing reserve. White flowers with typical long reddish-pink stamens are the main attraction of the mature tree.

Delonix decaryi has a specific ecological adaptation to the dry ecosystems of southern Madagascar with an extended dry season. The root system is deeply penetrating and thick, capable of storing water during dry periods. Young shoots are brownish-green and gradually become woody during the first and second years of growth. The tree typically flowers during the leafless period (autumn to winter in the Northern Hemisphere), when the plant is in physiological rest. This characteristic makes its flowering particularly striking, as the flowers are not overshadowed by foliage and create a significant visual effect.

For sowing five rare seeds, staggered sowing at different times over several weeks is recommended to increase the overall chance of success. Scarification with a file or metal wire disrupts the hard seed coat, followed by 24 hours of soaking in warm water. They should be sown to a depth of 1 centimetre in individual seed trays with a minimum volume of 0.5 litres. The germination temperature should be consistently 26 to 30 degrees Celsius with high humidity. Germination occurs within 2 to 6 weeks and the overall germination rate for five fresh seeds reaches 40 to 60 percent.

  • 5 pcs of Delonix decaryi seeds

Delonix decaryi is a rare ornament in foreign botanical gardens and its specimens are often part of international exchange programmes between botanical institutions. For successful long-term cultivation in Europe, a quality heated environment with a year-round temperature above 18 degrees Celsius is essential. The species tolerates pruning well and in smaller sizes is suitable for exotic-style bonsai compositions. From five cultivated seeds, it is realistic to raise 2 to 3 healthy seedlings suitable for further container cultivation.
