Overview
Cordia dichotoma Seeds 10 pcs Asian Fruit Tree with Sticky Fruits for Home Cultivation as an Exotic Indoor Ornamental Tree

Cordia dichotoma represents a very rarely available exotic timber for European growers, having found its firm place in Southeast Asia and India as a traditional fruit and medicinal tree. In this expanded pack of 10 seeds, you will receive a supply to try growing multiple specimens or to gift to friends who are interested in unusual tropical plants. The species occurs in various parts of Asia from India through Indochina to Indonesia and northern Australia.

In its homeland, the tree is known by local names such as lasoda, gunda, or bird lime tree. The last English name refers to the sticky pulp of the fruit, which was historically used as a trap for small birds or insects. The leaves are oval in shape, leathery with visible veins, and grow alternately along the branches. In adulthood, the plant reaches a height of around 6 to 12 metres with a spreading, arching crown providing welcome shade in the tropics.

Growing from seeds requires warmth and humidity. Before sowing, the seeds should be soaked in warm water for 24 hours and sown in well-draining substrate at a temperature of 27 to 30 °C. Germination usually takes 4 to 6 weeks and can be very irregular – some seeds germinate early, while others may take several months. Young seedlings grow slowly and require partial shade, regular watering, and high humidity.

The larger seed package allows growers to nurture several young plants for their own collection or to compare the vitality of individual specimens. A mature plant indoors will create an attractive sapling with decorative foliage and the opportunity to observe the ripening of exotic fruits. Lasoda fruits are an integral part of traditional cuisine in India – unripe fruits are used to make spicy pickles and chutneys, while fully ripe ones are consumed fresh for their sweet to sticky pulp. For successful long-term cultivation, a stable warm environment, partial shade, and regular misting of the leaves to maintain humidity are essential.
