Overview
Butea monosperma Seeds 10 pcs Indian Tree with Fiery Orange Flowers for Sowing and Decorative Cultivation Indoors

Butea monosperma, known in its homeland as the Flame of the Forest, Palash or Dhak, is a stunning tropical hardwood originating from the Indian subcontinent and surrounding countries of Southeast Asia. This package contains 10 seeds, allowing you to grow your own young plant of this extraordinary flowering tree. The main ornamental feature of the plant is the dense clusters of fiery orange-red butterfly-like flowers that cover the mature tree during the period when it is almost leafless, creating an unmistakable flame-like appearance of the crown. Complementing this are the large trifoliate green leaves with characteristically ovate leaflets, which the plant regenerates after the flowers have fallen. In India, this tree has a strong symbolic and cultural significance and is cultivated as a solitary ornamental tree in gardening practice, a popular material for tropical bonsai, and a rarely offered collector's species.

Contents of the Package:

  • 10 seeds of Butea monosperma

For successful germination, we recommend slightly scarifying the seeds with a fine file before sowing and then soaking them for 24 hours in lukewarm water, which significantly improves their germination rate. Sow in a well-draining substrate in a pot with a lid or in a mini-greenhouse, where the temperature does not drop below 22 °C. Young seedlings grow quickly under good conditions and soon begin to produce the characteristic trifoliate leaves, making the plant easily recognisable. When cultivated long-term in European conditions, the plant is particularly suitable for container cultivation – place it outside on a sunny, sheltered terrace in summer and move it indoors to a well-lit environment with temperatures consistently above 12 °C before winter. Over time, the plant can be shaped into bonsai form through regular pruning and wiring, thus maintaining its compactness. This package of 10 seeds of Butea monosperma is therefore a suitable start for anyone looking to dedicate themselves to this rarely offered Indian hardwood for the long term.
