Cyrtostachys Red Seeds Cyrtostachys renda 10 pcs Tropical Palm with Red Stems for Greenhouse and Indoor Cultivation

A set of ten seeds of the tropical palm Cyrtostachys red is an offering for collectors of exotic palm plants and enthusiasts of Southeast Asian flora. Cyrtostachys renda originates from the rainforests of Malaysia, Indonesia, and Borneo, where it grows on the edges of tropical wetlands. The species is highly valued for its bright red stems and leaf sheaths, which has earned it the name lipstick palm. Ten quality seeds allow you to try growing this very rare palm in the conditions of a European greenhouse or conservatory.

The Cyrtostachys palm forms clumps of young stems emerging from a basal bulb and gradually expands into a smaller clump with a diameter of 1 to 3 metres. A characteristic feature is the bright red to fiery leaf sheaths and upper parts of the stems, which contrast with the dark green feathery leaves. In its natural habitat, it can reach a height of up to 15 metres, while in container culture it usually grows to 2 to 4 metres. The leaves are pinnate, measuring 1 to 2 metres long, with narrow divided leaflets arranged on either side of the central stalk. The fruits are small, black berries.

For sowing ten seeds, pre-cultivation in a warm, humid environment with a minimum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius and high humidity around 80 percent is recommended. The seeds should be soaked for 48 hours in lukewarm water and sown shallowly in a well-draining substrate consisting of peat, perlite, and coarse sand. Germination occurs very slowly, usually taking 3 to 9 months, and the germination rate of fresh seeds is only 20 to 40 percent. Young seedlings require consistent warmth above 22 degrees Celsius, partial shade, and regular watering with soft water.

Cyrtostachys red is a popular luxury ornamental palm abroad for tropical gardens, hotels, and resorts in Southeast Asia. For successful cultivation in Europe, it is essential to maintain a consistent temperature above 18 degrees Celsius all year round and high humidity through regular misting. The palm is extremely sensitive to dry air and cold water when watering. Mature specimens create a stunning focal point in the conservatory with their brightly coloured red stems. From ten seeds grown, it is realistically possible to raise 2 to 4 healthy seedlings suitable for further container cultivation.
