Overview
Cupressus cashmeriana Seeds 30 pcs Kashmir Cypress with Silvery Blue-Green Drooping Foliage for Garden Cultivation

The set of thirty seeds of Kashmir cypress is a suitable offering for lovers of unconventional coniferous trees and collectors of exotic conifers from Asian regions. Cupressus cashmeriana is the national tree of Bhutan and can be found in its country of origin on the slopes of the Himalayas and around Buddhist monasteries, where it has been planted for centuries as a sacred tree. A characteristic feature of the species is its beautifully drooping foliage in a silvery blue-green hue, which makes the tree a sought-after ornament among dendrologists. Thirty quality seeds allow you to grow several strong seedlings for a small grove or conifer collection.

Kashmir cypress forms a straight conical tree reaching heights of up to 45 metres in its homeland, usually 8 to 15 metres in European conditions. The branches spread out sideways with typical long drooping twigs, giving the crown a delicate veil-like appearance. The foliage consists of small scale-like needles in a rich silvery blue colour with a slight waxy bloom, making the tree shine in the sun. The cones are small and spherical, measuring 1 to 2 centimetres in diameter, brown in colour and containing small winged seeds. The tree blooms in April and May with tiny yellow pollen cones.

For sowing thirty seeds, cold stratification in the refrigerator for 6 to 8 weeks in a moist substrate is recommended to improve germination. After stratification, the seeds should be sown shallowly in a permeable peat soil substrate with a pH of 5.5 to 6.5 in seed trays. Germination occurs at temperatures of 18 to 22 degrees Celsius within 3 to 6 weeks, and germination rates typically reach 30 to 50 percent with quality fresh seeds. Young seedlings require partial shade and consistent moisture during the first year of growth. After two years, they can be transplanted to a permanent location in the garden or into larger containers.

Kashmir cypress is a very striking solitary tree in the garden, which captivates at first glance with its delicate drooping foliage and silvery hue. For cultivation in a Czech garden, it is important to choose a protected location from strong winter winds, as the species is not fully frost-resistant. Young specimens can be wintered by covering with branches or relocating to a greenhouse during the harshest frosts. In Bhutan, the wood is traditionally used to make building materials for temples and houses, while the leaves are used to produce incense sticks. From thirty cultivated seeds, realistically 9 to 15 healthy seedlings can be raised.
