Overview
Cajanus Cajan Seeds 30 pcs Tropical Leguminous Flowering Shrub with Edible Pods for Sowing and Home Cultivation in the Garden

Cajanus cajan, known in its native countries as cajan, pigeon pea, represents a perennial tropical legume that plays a significant role in the nutrition of populations in Asia and Africa. This package contains 30 seeds, allowing you to cultivate your own supply of this useful plant directly in your garden or greenhouse. The species forms a upright flowering shrub with narrow lanceolate green leaves and ghostly green pod-like fruits with distinct segments, in which rich supplies of seeds mature. In the kitchen, cajan is used similarly to peas or lentils – in soups, stews, in curries, or as a base for the Indian specialty dhal. In gardening practice, the plant is also valued as a superb source of green manure and fodder, as it enriches the soil with valuable nutrients by fixing atmospheric nitrogen.

Contents of the Package:

  • 30 seeds of Cajanus cajan

Sow cajan directly in a permanent location after the last spring frosts, or first pre-grow seedlings on a windowsill in April and transplant them outside in May. The plant appreciates a sunny location with well-drained soil and regular watering during dry periods; otherwise, it is very low-maintenance. Growth is surprisingly rapid, and within a few months, a small seedling becomes a robust shrub laden with characteristic pods. Seed harvesting occurs gradually as the pods mature and brown – young pods are edible as green vegetables, while mature seeds are used for cooking or as seeds for the next season. This package of 30 Cajanus cajan seeds is therefore an excellent choice for anyone wishing to grow an unusual legume with high utility and ecological value in their garden.
