Overview
Bulk Pack of Japanese Cryptomeria Seeds Cryptomeria japonica 400 pcs Evergreen Conifer for Forestry Planting and Avenues

The bulk pack of four hundred seeds of Japanese Cryptomeria is intended for professional customers from the forestry, landscaping, and commercial growing sectors who require a supply of seeds for a full-scale nursery trial or experimental planting. Cryptomeria japonica has gained attention in recent years among European dendrologists and climatologists as a potential adaptive tree species for the future temperate zone affected by climate change. The photograph shows a young specimen in full health with a typical pyramidal crown structure and finely feathery green foliage texture. Four hundred seeds will cover the needs of a medium-sized growing project for two to three nursery seasons.

From an ecological standpoint, Cryptomeria is considered a very effective species for carbon sequestration, as an adult specimen can absorb 1 to 2 tonnes of CO2 during the first fifty years of growth. In the Japanese ecosystem, it hosts a specific fauna including dozens of species of insects, birds, and mammals that are evolutionarily tied to the species. The plant contains essential oils (up to 4% in the needles) with antibacterial and antifungal properties, which is traditionally used in Japan for the production of aromatherapy products, essential oils, and incense sticks. An important aspect is also the high allergenicity of the pollen during the spring flowering period, which affects millions of people in Japan suffering from seasonal allergies known as sugi kafunshō.

When sowing a large number of seeds, it is advisable to split the sowing into two timings – part in mid-October and the second half in mid-March – to ensure optimal use of natural stratification in the field. A practical solution for bulk sowing is to prepare a protected outdoor bed with light shading of approximately 2 to 3 square metres. The substrate is prepared by mixing sand, compost, forest litter, and perlite in a ratio of 2:2:1:1 and applied at a thickness of 10 to 15 centimetres. Germination after proper stratification reaches 25 to 45 percent, allowing for 100 to 180 viable seedlings from four hundred seeds.

  • 400 pcs of Cryptomeria japonica seeds

For landscape architects, Cryptomeria represents an interesting alternative to commonly used European conifer species, as it offers differing foliage texture and a soft silhouette of the crown. When planted en masse in a grove structure, Cryptomeria creates a typical Japanese park with a sacred atmosphere reminiscent of Shinto shrines. For successful planting, it is important to choose a site protected from winter northern winds and with sufficient soil moisture during the summer period. For research purposes, the large pack is used in the study of the introduction of Asian conifers into the European climate and their adaptability to climate change.
