Overview
Silver Achromatic Immersion Objective 100x for Oil with Aperture 1.25 for Biological Microscope with a Conjugate Distance of 185 mm

For the highest level of magnification in a biological microscope setup, this immersion objective 100x is designated OIL. It operates with a drop of immersion oil between the front lens and the cover slip, achieving a numerical aperture of 1.25. Achromatic correction limits chromatic fringes that can easily appear at the edges of small structures, such as cell nuclei or fine fibres, at such high magnification. The silver casing bears the marked data S100/1.25 OIL and 160/0.17, which allows for easy classification of the objective with other objectives in the revolving nosepiece. The conjugate distance of the objective is 185 mm, a value that is advisable to compare with the microscope's parameters before installation.

  • Oil Immersion – the objective is designed for use with immersion oil, which is applied in a small amount directly onto the cover slip above the observed area, and the objective is gently lowered into the drop to prevent an air gap between the lens and the specimen.
  • Hundredfold Magnification – in combination with the microscope's eyepiece, it allows for the differentiation of fine details of cells and other microscopic structures that merge or appear only as indistinct dots with weaker objectives.
  • Aperture 1.25 – the high numerical aperture indicated on the casing corresponds to use with oil immersion and is a key specification for the resolving power of the objective.
  • Parameters 160/0.17 – the markings indicate a mechanical tube length of 160 mm and a cover slip thickness of 0.17 mm, for which the optics of the objective are calculated, making it suitable for standard specimens covered with a standard cover slip.
  • Conjugate Distance 185 mm – this specification is necessary to verify that the objective will be correctly aligned with the optical system of the microscope and with other objectives already installed in the revolving nosepiece after being screwed in.
  • White Stripe and Knurled Grip – the white ring on the casing aids in identifying the objective in the revolving nosepiece, while the black knurled section assists in screwing in and unscrewing.

Contents of the package:

  • 1x Immersion Objective 100x

The 100x immersion objective complements the biological microscope setup where dry objectives are insufficient, and it is necessary to observe the finest details of the specimen. Immersion oil is not included in the package, so it is essential to have it prepared separately along with cover slips and a cleaning cloth for optics. After each use, the oil should be gently wiped from the front lens to prevent it from drying and affecting the image quality during subsequent observations. Before replacing an older objective, it is worth comparing the conjugate distance of 185 mm and the tube length with the existing optics of the microscope. This compact objective with achromatic correction is suitable for school laboratories, studying biology, and home microscopy, where it enhances weaker objectives with the highest level of magnification.
