Contents of the package:

  • 10 seeds of Cardiocrinum giganteum

Growing this stunning bulbous plant is among the long-term projects for patient growers, as the journey from sowing to the first flowering typically takes five to seven years. For successful germination, it is essential to stratify the seeds at low temperatures around 0–5 °C for several months, preferably naturally over winter in a protected outdoor location or in the refrigerator. Young seedlings grow very slowly in the first years and gradually develop a strong bulb, from which an impressive flowering stalk will later emerge. Cardiocrinum is a monocarpic plant – after flowering, the mother bulb dies but leaves offsets in the soil, from which further generations gradually develop. For long-term cultivation, the plant thrives best in partial shade under deciduous trees, in woodland nooks, or in moister beds, where it mimics its natural habitat. This package of 10 seeds of Cardiocrinum giganteum is therefore a challenge for growers seeking a truly extraordinary addition to their collection.
