Overview
Lime Seeds Citrus aurantifolia 10 pcs Tropical Citrus with Fragrant White Flowers for Growing at Home on the Terrace or in the Conservatory

The Persian lime (Citrus aurantifolia) is a rewarding citrus species for home cultivation from seeds. This expanded pack contains 10 seeds, from which several young plants can be grown to select the strongest individuals, plant as bonsai plants, or gift to loved ones. This species is among the smallest representatives of the Citrus genus and under indoor conditions, it forms a compact bushy habit with dark green glossy leaves that are oval to elliptical in shape. Young shoots are often armed with sharp thorns.

In adulthood, the plant usually flowers several times a year, producing small white star-shaped flowers with a characteristic strong fragrance typical of citrus. The flowers appear singly or in small clusters in the leaf axils and after pollination, they transform into green to yellow spherical fruits with very juicy and acidic flesh rich in vitamin C and essential oils. The fruits are smaller than a typical lemon – usually 3 to 5 cm in diameter – and are valued primarily for their intense lime aroma and flavour.

For germination, it is best to use fresh seeds extracted from a ripe fruit. Before sowing, it is advisable to rinse them and briefly soak them in lukewarm water. They should be sown shallowly into a well-draining substrate suitable for citrus, which has a neutral to slightly acidic pH. Germination occurs at a temperature of around 25 °C over 3 to 5 weeks. After germination, the seedlings require a constant room temperature, plenty of light, and careful watering. In the first few years, they grow slowly and gradually form a dense leafy crown, which can be shaped by trimming to the desired form.

  • 10 pcs of Citrus aurantifolia seeds

From a pack of 10 seeds, several young limes can be successfully grown for various purposes – as a houseplant, seasonal balcony resident, or beginner's citrus bonsai. More plants allow for comparison of different growing techniques and selecting the most vital specimen for long-term cultivation. The fruits of the home-grown lime can be used fresh in drinks, mojitos, cocktails, to flavour fish and chicken dishes, or in exotic marinades inspired by Asian cuisine. For regular flowering and fruiting of the plant indoors, it is important to provide it with a rest period in winter at a temperature of around 10 to 12 °C and limited watering. In summer, it thrives outdoors on a sunny sheltered terrace, where it can replenish its supply of light and heat necessary for bud formation.
