Overview
Larger Honeywort Seeds Cerinthe major 100 pcs Garden Herb with Purple-Blue Flowers for Borders and Container Planting

Cerinthe major, larger honeywort, is a collector's annual whose unusual appearance is increasingly favoured by gardeners and florists. This large pack of 100 seeds is intended for growers with ambitions to create larger flowering areas, flower meadows or to supply their garden for several upcoming seasons. The plant is recognised by its succulent blue-green leaves with a characteristic whitish waxy coating that resembles a fine crust. During flowering, drooping clusters of flowers appear at the tips of the stems, surrounded by deep purple bracts.

Mass planting of honeywort creates striking strips with smooth transitions of blue, purple, and wine tones. The seeds have a higher germination rate when sown into pre-prepared, lightly loosened soil enriched with a bit of compost. For sowing, it is necessary to maintain a depth of 1 to 2 cm, as deeper planting reduces success. Germination takes two to three weeks at temperatures around 16 to 20 °C. Larger sowings are best divided into several parts during April and May, resulting in a staggered flowering period from June to the end of September.

Larger honeywort is a plant that excels in ecological gardening projects – its flowers are among the leading producers of nectar for wild bees and other pollinators. Regularly cutting off the spent flower tops can extend the flowering period by several weeks. Once the fruits have ripened, heavy round seeds fall to the ground, allowing the plant to sustain itself in the garden through self-seeding in subsequent years. The flowering stems are suitable for cut bouquets, autumn arrangements, and drying, where the bracts retain their colour for a long time.

The large pack of honeywort allows for practical use of the plant in various gardening scenarios – from sowing bare areas in ornamental gardens to supporting field and garden beehives, and even professional cultivation for cut flowers in summer and autumn bouquets. A multi-stage sowing guarantees a gradual flowering throughout the entire season, keeping the garden attractive for a long time. Honeywort wonderfully complements colourful plantings with cornflowers, dianthus, and nasturtiums. For successful development, the plant requires a sunny location, well-drained soil, and regular but not excessive watering. After the seeds have ripened, part of the harvest can be left for the next season, while the other part can be used for personal planting experiments or exchanged among growers.
