Overview
Key Lime Seeds Citrus aurantifolia 50 pcs Tropical Citrus for Growing from Seeds Indoors and on the Terrace

Citrus aurantifolia, true lime or Key Lime, is a small citrus species popular with growers and chefs around the world. This bulk pack of 50 seeds is intended for growers who plan to cultivate multiple specimens or experiment with various germination and growing methods. The species occurs naturally from the Indian Malabar region through Persia to the tropical Americas, where it is a source of aromatic lime juice known in global gastronomy. From the small seeds, inconspicuous seedlings will grow, gradually developing into ornamental woody plants with an attractive appearance.

True lime is a mature multi-stemmed evergreen shrub with thin, often thorny branches and dense foliage. Maximum height indoors is around 1.5 to 2 metres, while in the open soil of tropical areas, it can reach up to 4 metres. The leaves are small, oval, deep green with a characteristic citrus aroma. Throughout the year, the plant flowers several times, with clusters of small white flowers appearing at the ends of the branches, which gradually give way to small spherical fruits with thin brownish-green to yellow skin.

For germinating 50 seeds, it is advisable to prepare a larger seed tray with a light citrus substrate. The seeds should be sown immediately after being removed from the fruit to a depth of 1 to 2 cm, and the substrate should be kept evenly moist at a temperature of 23 to 27 °C. Germination usually takes 3 to 8 weeks, depending on the freshness of the seeds. After the seedlings emerge, they should be gradually transplanted into smaller individual pots with a drainage layer at the bottom. Young plants grow slowly and require stable temperatures, plenty of light, and careful regular watering with settled or rainwater.

  • 50 pcs of Citrus aurantifolia seeds

The larger pack of lime allows for diverse uses – some seedlings can be tried as beginner bonsai, others grown as standard house trees, and others planted outdoors for seasonal stays in pots. Growers will also appreciate the opportunity for long-term selection of the most suitable individual based on vigorous growth or health status. Home-grown lime fruits have a significantly more intense aroma and taste compared to commercially sold fruits, especially if the plant has grown in sufficient light and warmth. During winter, it is important to provide the plant with a cooler resting period at around 10 °C to maintain the proper vegetative rhythm and regular flowering. Regular fertilisation with a special citrus fertiliser during the spring to autumn period supports growth, flowering, and fruit production.
