Overview
Dietes Iridioides Seeds 20 pcs African Perennial with White Flowers and Purple-Yellow Centre for Planting in Gardens and Containers

The package contains 20 seeds of the Dietes iridioides species, a charming perennial herb from the iris family, native to southern and eastern Africa. The plant forms sturdy clumps of narrow green leaves and showcases large flowers with white outer petals, a purple centre and golden-yellow markings during its flowering period, creating an exceptionally harmonious appearance. Individual flowers may only remain open for a short time, but they appear on the plant in long waves throughout the season. The larger pack of 20 seeds allows for the convenient cultivation of multiple seedlings at once, whether for personal use or sharing with family and friends. This African perennial has rightfully earned a good reputation in horticulture due to its combination of elegant flowers and relatively undemanding cultivation.

For maximum germination, we recommend soaking the seeds in lukewarm water for 24 hours, which softens the seed coat and accelerates the development of the first shoots. Sow into well-draining substrate composed of potting soil mixed with sand or perlite, to a depth of about half a centimetre. Optimal conditions for germination include temperatures between 18 and 24 °C, moderate humidity, and plenty of diffused light without direct midday sun. Germination typically occurs within three to eight weeks, sometimes with delays for individual seeds. Once sufficiently rooted, gradually acclimatise the seedlings and transplant them into larger containers or directly into a permanent sunny location. In cooler European conditions, we recommend growing the plant in a portable container, which can be moved indoors to a frost-free, bright space before the first frosts.

  • 20 pcs of Dietes iridioides seeds

This set of twenty seeds is suitable for growers who want to experiment with multiple sowing attempts and gradually cultivate several strong specimens of this perennial. The tri-coloured flowers with white petals are unmissable when in full bloom and create an elegant accent in any collection of ornamental plants. Cultivation is long-term — from sowing to flowering plant usually takes two to three years, depending on conditions and care. In temperate climates, this African perennial is primarily used as a container plant, adorning the terrace or balcony during the season and moved to a frost-free area in winter. A home-grown plant also represents a delightful way to claim a piece of exotic flora that is rarely found in standard gardening offerings.
