Overview
Dietes Bicolor Seeds 10 pcs African Perennial with Creamy Yellow Flowers and Dark Spots for Planting in the Garden and Containers

This pack contains 10 seeds of the Dietes bicolor species, an attractive perennial plant native to South Africa. This species is closely related to irises and forms dense clumps of narrow, sword-like leaves, above which elegant flower stalks emerge during the flowering period. The main ornamental value lies in the light creamy yellow flowers resembling an iris, complemented by striking dark spots on the inner side of the petals. This contrast is both elegant and playful, making the plant a delightful addition not only to ornamental beds but also to large containers on the terrace or balcony. Growing from seed is relatively rewarding here and allows for the cultivation of several specimens with varying rates of development.

For successful sowing, we recommend soaking the seeds in lukewarm water for several hours, which will improve their germination rate. Sow into well-draining substrate based on garden soil with sand to a depth of about half a centimetre, lightly press down and water gently. Germination occurs best at temperatures between 20 and 25 °C and stable substrate moisture, which is best maintained under plastic or in a mini greenhouse. The first shoots usually appear within a few weeks, although sometimes longer waiting times should be expected. Gradually acclimatise young plants, introducing them to direct sunlight, and once sufficiently rooted, they can be transplanted into a permanent container or a sunny bed. In winter, the plant needs protection from frost—under our conditions, it is best grown in a portable container.
