Overview
Dichroa febrifuga Seeds 10 pcs Asian Ornamental Shrub with Small Blue Star-Shaped Flowers for Growing in the Garden and Indoors

The set contains 10 seeds of the species Dichroa febrifuga, a lesser-known Asian shrub from the hydrangea family. This plant originates from the warmer regions of East and Southeast Asia and is sought after in horticulture primarily for its striking abundantly filled inflorescences in blue to light purple shades. The small, star-shaped flowers grow in dense panicles, creating a very decorative effect when the plant is in full bloom. The neighbouring family ties with hydrangeas are clearly visible in bloom, yet dichroa retains its completely unique character. Growing from seed is a way to acquire this interesting plant without relying on hard-to-find seedlings.

The seeds of this species are delicate, so we recommend sowing them only on the surface of the substrate or lightly pressing them down without covering. A suitable substrate is a permeable, slightly acidic seedling mix based on peat enriched with sand or perlite, which maintains stable moisture. Germination occurs best at a temperature of around 20 to 25 °C and higher humidity, ideally in a mini greenhouse or under a transparent lid. The first roots typically appear within a few weeks, but for some seeds, the process may take longer, so it is advisable to be patient. Young seedlings thrive in a bright location without direct midday sun and require regular, gentle watering — the substrate should not dry out, nor should it remain waterlogged for extended periods.

This plant will delight anyone with a fondness for unusual species with similarly attractive flowers as its more well-known relatives from the hydrangea family. Blue inflorescences are relatively rare in the plant kingdom and make dichroa an interesting element for interiors, conservatories, and greenhouse cultivation. In the mild Czech climate, it is advisable to grow the plant in a container that can be moved to a frost-free location with ample light during winter. A set of ten seeds allows for several sowing attempts and enables the cultivation of several specimens from which you can select the healthiest one. Your own home-grown specimens of this Asian curiosity can, over time, become not only an ornament of your home collection but also a topic for pleasant conversations with other gardeners.
