Deadly Nightshade Atropa belladonna 20 Seeds Mysterious Historical Medicinal Plant with Dark Bell-Shaped Flowers and Black Berries
You already have the maximum available quantity in your cart.
Deadly Nightshade (Atropa belladonna) is one of the most well-known and mysterious European plants that has fascinated herbalists, doctors, and botany enthusiasts for centuries. This pack contains 20 carefully selected seeds, allowing you to grow a majestic perennial herb that can reach heights of up to two metres. Deadly Nightshade is characterised by its striking bell-shaped flowers in dark purple, which are followed by shiny black berries set on star-shaped green calyces. It is a very eye-catching plant for shady corners of the garden, woodland plantings, and collections of historical medicinal herbs. Due to its toxicity, it is suitable only for ornamental beds out of reach of children and animals.
The species originates from the wooded areas of Central and Southern Europe, where it naturally inhabits calcareous clearings, glades, and the edges of deciduous forests. In cultivation, it thrives best in partial shade to light shade, ideally in well-drained, humus-rich soil with a slightly alkaline reaction. Seed germination is slow and requires cold stratification to break their natural dormancy. Once germinated, the plant is undemanding, long-lived, and gradually develops a robust root system. Deadly Nightshade also has a rich cultural-historical symbolism – its Latin name refers to the Greek goddess of fate, Atropos, and the Italian name "belladonna" recalls Renaissance women who used drops of its juice to enlarge their pupils.

Deadly Nightshade is the perfect adornment for shady corners, woodland gardens, and collections of historical European medicinal herbs and will reward you with reliable flowering and the production of typical dark berries after a few seasons.
