Overview
Cordyline Australis Purpurea Seeds 50 pcs Subtropical Burgundy Tree for Garden Balcony and Indoor Cultivation

A large pack of 50 seeds of Cordyline australis 'Purpurea' represents an ideal supply for growers who wish to have material for multiple plantings, nurturing a larger number of plants or experimenting with various substrate mixtures. This species is a popular subtropical plant in European horticulture with a very long tradition of use in park landscaping, first brought to Europe by botanists in the late 18th century. The purple variant is now one of the most valued cultivars due to its consistent leaf colour throughout the year.

Botanically, young Cordyline forms a ground rosette of dense leaves, from which an upright trunk gradually grows. The leaves are stiff, leathery, up to 90 cm long, and a deep burgundy to almost purple-black colour. A mature specimen can reach heights of 6 to 8 metres under ideal climatic conditions, although it usually remains smaller in container plantings. In adulthood, the plant produces terminal racemes with small white flowers that attract bees and other pollinators.

For mass sowing of 50 seeds, it is advisable to prepare a larger seed tray or plastic box with a lid to maintain moisture. Before sowing, the seeds should be soaked in warm water for 24 hours. They are sown shallowly into a well-draining substrate at temperatures of 20 to 25 °C and higher humidity. Germination is usually irregular and takes 3 to 6 weeks. Young seedlings grow slowly and require partial shade, regular watering with standing water, and gradual acclimatisation.

Contents of the package:

  • 50 pcs of Cordyline australis 'Purpurea' seeds

With 50 seeds, it is possible to successfully cultivate a group of young plants for planting in various locations in the garden, on the balcony, or into individual gift pots. Purple Cordyline is excellently suited for modern garden designs in combination with ornamental grasses, succulents, and structural specimens. In container plantings, it creates an impressive vertical accent that enhances the atmosphere of a tropical garden. For successful long-term cultivation, a sunny location, well-draining substrate with drainage, and winter protection from severe frosts is essential, either by moving the plant to a frost-free room or by thoroughly covering it in the garden. Regular removal of dried leaves keeps the plant in decorative form for decades.
