Overview
Coix Lacryma-Jobi Seeds 100 pcs Perennial Tropical Plant with Pearlescent Fruits for Crafting and Cooking

In this large pack of 100 Coix seeds, you will receive sufficient supply to establish your own field, self-sufficiency projects, or long-term cultivation of this traditional Asian plant. Coix lacryma-jobi is a perennial grass that occurs naturally from India through China to Indonesia and northern Australia, where it traditionally forms part of agricultural cultures and folk medicine. The species is characterised by the attractive appearance of the plant and unusual fruits, which have no direct equivalent in the European environment.

Botanically, Coix forms erect multi-stemmed clumps with narrow long leaves, whose appearance strongly resembles corn leaves. In maturity, the plant typically reaches heights of 1.5 to 2 metres. The inflorescence arises from the leaf axils in the form of a monoecious spike with female and male flowers separated in different parts of the inflorescence. After wind pollination, the characteristic fruits gradually develop – hard berry-like structures with a visible central opening, which allows them to be used for jewellery making without further processing.

For mass sowing, it is advisable to soak the seeds in warm water for 12 to 24 hours before sowing. After absorbing moisture, they should be sown in prepared rows with a spacing of 30 cm at a depth of 1.5 to 2 cm. Germination occurs at temperatures of 22 to 26 °C over 1 to 3 weeks. The plants benefit from regular watering, sunny warm locations, and a humus-rich permeable substrate.

Contents of the package:

  • 100 pcs of Coix lacryma-jobi seeds

The large pack of 100 seeds allows for the creation of a complete planting field, an organic barrier, or a decorative group of plants in publicly accessible gardens. The use of the fruits in jewellery is a widespread tradition in Asia and Latin America – from strung grains, bracelets, necklaces, belts, and rosary beads are made. In the kitchen, the seeds can be prepared like rice after being removed from the hard shell, used in soups, stews, or as a base for traditional Asian grain drinks and porridge. For the best success in cultivation, a sunny location, permeable humus substrate, and harvesting of seeds after ripening at the end of the season for further sowing are sufficient.
