The Arabica coffee plant 'IHCAFE 90' is a Central American cultivated variety that was developed as part of a long-term programme by the Honduran Coffee Institute. This expanded pack of 10 seeds is suitable for growers planning to try cultivating multiple specimens or experimenting with different germination methods. This species is among the most commercially cultivated varieties in the Honduran coffee industry, characterised by robust growth and a stable yield of quality coffee beans.

The main advantage of this variety is its resistance to leaf rust and some other fungal diseases, making it an ideal choice for cultivation in home conditions where optimal disease care cannot always be ensured. It typically forms a medium-sized compact tree with a dense green crown and characteristic glossy leaves of oval-elliptical shape. The flowers are small, white, and regularly produce coffee cherries that ripen to a deep red colour.

Growing from seeds requires the use of fresh seeds and a stable warm environment. Before sowing, the seeds should be soaked in warm water for 24 hours and then sown in permeable substrate at a temperature of 27 to 30 °C. Germination occurs irregularly over 4 to 10 weeks. Young seedlings require partial shade, high humidity, and careful watering. IHCAFE 90 grows relatively quickly and can reach a height of 1.5 to 2 metres indoors within 2 to 3 years.

After 3 to 5 years of growth, the first coffee cherries can be expected, from which you can process the beans for your own home roasting. This variety is also popular for its ability to tolerate smaller fluctuations in temperature and humidity, making it suitable for novice growers. For successful growth, a stable warm environment between 18 and 25 °C, partial shade without direct sunlight, and regular watering are essential. During the winter months, the plant should be moved to a cooler room with temperatures of 14 to 16 °C, and watering should be significantly reduced.
