Overview
Coffea arabica Himalaya Seeds 10 pcs Mountain Variety Coffee for Growing from Seed at Home and Office

Coffea arabica 'Himalaya' is one of the lesser-known but all the more interesting varieties of Arabica coffee available in European gardening. In this expanded pack of 10 seeds, you will gain a supply for growing multiple specimens or experimenting with various germination methods. This species is genetically adapted to the mountain climate of the Indian subcontinent, where the plant thrives at altitudes of 1500 to 2200 metres on the slopes of the Himalayan foothills. Essentially, it represents one of the height-adapted selections of classic Arabica.

The plant forms a direct compact tree with strong branches and dense, deep dark green foliage. The leaves are elliptical, glossy, gently wavy at the edges, with a visible central vein. Flowers usually appear in spring in the axils of leaves as clusters of small white blooms with a sweet fragrance. After pollination (the plant is self-pollinating), coffee cherries gradually develop, which have a slower ripening process typical of high-altitude grown coffees. The fruits ripen gradually, so harvesting can extend over several weeks.

Growing from seeds requires patience and higher temperatures to start germination – seeds are soaked for 24 hours in warm water and sown in a slightly acidic substrate enriched with sand. Germination occurs at 25 to 28 °C and typically takes 6 to 10 weeks. Young seedlings grow more slowly than tropical varieties, but they are sturdier and better tolerate temperature fluctuations. Indoors, the plant is maintained with minimal issues and, in maturity, forms an elegant tree suitable for modern flats.

Growing this mountain variety is a rewarding project for enthusiasts of unusual coffee plants and lovers of slowly growing trees. Adaptability to cooler rooms is an advantage for growers who do not always have access to a consistently warm environment of a classic conservatory. A home-grown plant gradually matures and, after several years, can produce a small quantity of coffee beans that can be used for personal roasting experiments. Regular watering with stale water, partial shade without direct midday sun, and occasional fertilising with special fertiliser for citrus or coffee plants support healthy growth throughout the year. In winter, it is advisable to place the plant in a cooler room with a temperature around 12 °C.
