Overview
Coffea arabica Castillo Coffee Seeds 10 pcs Tropical Evergreen Tree with Fragrant Flowers for Indoor Coffee Cultivation

The Coffea arabica Castillo variety is a modern horticultural form of the popular species Coffea arabica, bred for intense yield and high resistance to diseases. This expanded pack of 10 seeds is intended for growers who wish to experiment with growing multiple trees in various rooms or at the workplace. The species occurs in the wild in the mountain forests of the Ethiopian province of Kaffa, from which the name of the coffee originates. Indoors, the coffee tree becomes a long-lived plant that can live for several decades with proper care.

The plant creates an attractive evergreen tree with strong branches and characteristic pairs of leaves arranged opposite each other. The leaves are elliptical, dark green, glossy, with a visible wavy edge. Flowers appear in clusters in the leaf axils, are small, white, star-shaped, and have a sweet jasmine fragrance that fills the room during the spring to summer period. After pollination (the coffee tree is self-pollinating), coffee cherries develop, gradually ripening to a deep red colour.

For germination, it is essential to use fresh seeds that are treated and stored correctly. Before sowing, the seeds are soaked in warm water for 24 hours. They are sown in a permeable substrate with a slightly acidic reaction at a temperature of around 28 °C and consistently higher air humidity. Germination of the coffee tree is irregular, usually taking 1 to 3 months, so more seeds increase the chance of success. Young seedlings require partial shade and regular watering.

From ten seeds, it is possible to successfully grow several young coffee trees for your own attempt to obtain fruits, from which you can eventually brew your own cup of coffee. Roasting and grinding home-grown beans is one of the most rewarding experiences in growing coffee – from the fruits of 4 to 5-year-old plants, you can obtain 1 to 2 kg of raw beans per year. For successful growth, it is advisable to provide the plant with bright, diffused light, a stable temperature of 18 to 24 °C, and regular misting of the leaves. In winter, watering is significantly reduced, and a cooler location around 14 °C is recommended, where the plant can rest and better set buds for the next season. Young plants can be shaped by trimming for a more compact habit.
