Overview
Carica lanceolata Seeds 5 pcs Rare Mountain Tropical Tree with Striped Fruits for Sowing and Collectors' Cultivation

Carica lanceolata is a rarely available mountain relative of the well-known papaya, which grows in the wild in the humid forests of the Andean regions of South America. This small package contains 5 seeds, allowing you to try growing this unusual tropical tree at home. The species is characterised by small pear-shaped elongated fruits with a green skin and contrasting lighter longitudinal stripes, which the mature plant bears in clusters hanging from the branches. The habitus of the plant is complemented by elongated lanceolate green leaves with visible venation, giving the mature tree an airy tropical appearance. This species is among the lesser-known representatives of the Caricaceae family and is attracting the attention of collectors seeking a truly rare plant from the South American mountains. In European cultivation, it is exclusively used as a pot collector's plant for greenhouses or heated conservatories.

Contents of the Package:

  • 5 seeds of Carica lanceolata

For successful sowing, we recommend soaking the seeds in lukewarm water for 24 hours before sowing, which softens the seed coat and improves germination. Sow in a permeable substrate in a pot with a cover or in a mini-greenhouse at a temperature around 25 °C. Young seedlings grow gradually in the first years, creating a typical structure with a thin stem and elongated lanceolate foliage. For successful long-term cultivation in Central European conditions, it is essential to provide the plant with a heated conservatory or greenhouse with temperatures consistently above 12 °C and higher air humidity, mimicking the conditions of mountain mist forests. In summer, the plant can be placed on a sheltered outdoor terrace, but it must be returned to safety before the first frosts. This package of 5 Carica lanceolata seeds is therefore a suitable start for collectors seeking a truly unconventional species from the Caricaceae family for their collection of tropical plants.
