The bamboo tea tray is based on the tradition of the Chinese tea ceremony gongfu cha, during which specialised serving utensils are used for preparing loose leaf tea in small teapots. The upper working surface made of parallel bamboo slats captures excess water that drains into a closed bottom reservoir, keeping the serving area dry even during several hours of tea sessions. The size of 18.5 × 30 cm corresponds to a smaller design that fits on a small coffee table or writing desk and serves both for one person and for a more intimate tasting for two. Traditional gongfu cha requires that both the teapot and cups are warmed with hot water before pouring, which is then discarded onto the serving area after a few seconds. Using a regular table or plate would cause the hot water to unpleasantly spill onto the surroundings, and the cups would slide on the liquid. This tray solves both situations at once – the water disappears between the slats into the bottom reservoir, the cups remain dry, and after the ceremony, the water can be poured out and the tray dried. In addition to traditional preparation of oolong, pu-erh, or Chinese green tea, the tray can also be used for serving regular teas, serving as an aesthetic addition to the table. Over time, the bamboo develops a patina that only enhances its natural beauty, and each piece gradually becomes unique according to how it is treated.
