Overview
Annona purpurea Seeds, Pack of 5, Tropical Annona with Thorny Fruits, for Collectors of Exotic Fruit Plants

In this pack, you will receive 5 seeds of the less commonly available tropical annona Annona purpurea, which is valued for its round green fruits covered with characteristic thorny protrusions. This species is one of the rare representatives of the genus Annona and creates a unique visual attraction in any collection of exotic plants. A higher number of seeds compared to the smallest pack gives the grower more chances for successful germination and the opportunity to cultivate more individuals for their own collector's collection. This species is popular among enthusiasts of tropical fruit species who are seeking a truly unusual plant with high horticultural value. Growing this variety presents a long-term cultivation challenge with the reward of a rare specimen.

Main product features:

  • Botanical name: Annona purpurea (soncoya)
  • Quantity: 5 seeds per pack
  • Fruits: round green with striking long thorny protrusions
  • Leaves: green leathery with a characteristic structure
  • Plant character: rare tropical fruit tree with high collector's value
  • Habitat and cultivation: warmth, high humidity, well-draining nutritious soil, suitable for greenhouses, heated conservatories, or interiors with tropical conditions
  • Pre-cultivation: sowing in warmth, seeds require stable higher temperatures and consistent moisture of the substrate for successful germination
  • Uses: rare tropical fruit, aromatic flesh for traditional culinary uses, collector's value
  • Contents of the pack: 5 seeds of Annona purpurea.

A higher quantity of seeds in this pack gives the grower a better chance of successful germination and the opportunity to experiment with different cultivation methods for this rare tropical plant. Part of the seeds can be used for classic sowing in warm substrate, part for experimenting with different growing conditions, and another for later in the season, allowing for the discovery of the optimal approach for this lesser-known species. Young seedlings gradually produce the first leaves after germination, from which robust plants with characteristic green leathery leaves develop over the years. In favourable conditions, the plant may begin to produce unmistakable thorny round fruits, whose aromatic flesh is traditionally used in cuisine in its countries of origin. This species originates from the tropical regions of Central America and requires a stable warm and humid environment, making it necessary to cultivate it exclusively in a greenhouse, heated conservatory, or indoors with tropical conditions. Regular watering with warm water, moderate fertilisation during the growing season, and a sunny warm location support the healthy development of the plant and its long-term condition. In cooler months, it is important to protect the plant from temperature drops below its tolerance. A higher number of seeds in the pack also allows for sharing seedlings with other collectors of exotic plants or gradually creating a smaller collection of this rare annona. For growers seeking a truly rare tropical species with an unusual appearance of fruits, this pack is a practical choice with a higher chance of successfully growing several quality individuals.
