Overview
20x Objective with Silver Housing and Achromatic Correction for Biological Microscope with Aperture 0.40 and Conjugate Distance 185 mm

The 20x objective fills the space in the biological microscope assembly between the low-power and high-power objectives and is suitable for more detailed viewing of tissues, cells, and sections. The housing is marked with a numerical aperture of 0.40 along with the specification 160/0.17, which indicates a tube length of 160 mm and a cover slip thickness of 0.17 mm. The achromatic corrected optics suppress chromatic fringes at the interface of light and dark areas of the specimen. It is a dry objective, so it is used without immersion oil, and air remains between the specimen and the lens. Before mounting, the conjugate distance of 185 mm is particularly important, as it verifies whether the objective matches the optics of the microscope.

  • Medium Magnification 20x – in combination with the microscope eyepiece, it shows more details than low-power objectives while still providing a sufficiently wide view of the specimen for orientation in the sample, making it often switched to immediately after locating a site with a lower power objective.
  • Aperture 0.40 – the value indicated directly on the objective after the slash, which together with the magnification serves for quick comparison with other objectives in the set.
  • No Immersion – the objective operates dry, so after observation, the front lens only needs occasional dusting, and there is no need to remove oil residues or have special cleaning agents for immersion on hand.
  • 160 mm Tube – the specification 160/0.17 on the housing determines the mechanical tube length, and specimens with a standard cover slip thickness of 0.17 mm can be used.
  • Conjugate Distance 185 mm – a crucial parameter for selecting a replacement objective, which needs to be compared with the specifications of the microscope or with objectives that are already screwed into the revolving nosepiece and in use.
  • Green Stripe – the coloured ring below the description helps quickly distinguish the 20x objective from others, and the black knurled part facilitates grip when screwing it into the nosepiece.

Contents of the package:

  • 1x Achromatic 20x Objective

The 20x objective is a suitable choice for supplementing an assembly that lacks an intermediary step between low and high magnification. It is ideal for observing plant tissues, animal tissues, and unicellular organisms in water samples, i.e., specimens where it is necessary to see individual cells as well as their arrangement. The compact objective with a green stripe and achromatic correction is useful in school biology education, in natural science clubs, and for home study of specimens. When selecting, it is advisable to check whether the microscope uses optics with a tube length of 160 mm to ensure the objective matches the other components. After use, the objective should be stored clean and protected from dust, preferably together with other microscope accessories in a closed box, where there is no risk of scratching the front lens.
