Fabric paints and dyes

Fabric paints and dyes turn a T-shirt, tote bag, trainers or faded denim into a one-off piece. You'll find sets of acrylic fabric paint in tubes with binder and brushes, powder dye for dyeing clothes and tie-dye, and a fixative for longer-lasting results.

For painting designs there are acrylic fabric paints in sets of 12, 18 or 36 tubes. According to the manufacturer, once dry they're permanent, water-resistant and withstand washing, so your design lasts on T-shirts, hoodies, canvas bags and trainers. Sets with 10 ml tubes include a textile binder for thinning and better adhesion plus a brush, while the set with 12 ml tubes goes on like regular acrylic paint.

To re-dye a whole garment, use powder fabric dye, dissolved in hot water at 85–100 °C. It's designed for cotton, linen, denim, canvas, modal and viscose, not for wool, silk or polyester. A smaller pack is enough for one garment, a larger one for several. It's ideal for refreshing faded clothes and for tie-dye at home.

After dyeing, a dye fixative helps keep the shade in the fabric and reduces fading. The 25 ml bottle is formaldehyde-free and suits cotton and other natural fibres. According to the manufacturer, the paints and dyes contain no high-risk chemicals. Wear gloves when dyeing and take care with the hot water.
